Photographer Gabriele Galimberti’s grandmother said something similar to him before one of his many globetrotting work trips. To ensure he had at least one good meal, she prepared for him a dish of ravioli before he departed on one of his adventures.

“In that occasion I said to my grandma ‘You know, Grandma, there are many other grandmas around the world and most of them are really good cooks,” Galimberti wrote via email. “I’m going to meet them and ask them to cook for me so I can show you that you don’t have to be worried for me and the food that I will eat!’ This is the way my project was born!”

The project, “Delicatessen With Love”, took Galimberti to 58 countries where he photographed grandmothers with both the ingredients and finished signature dishes.

He acted as photographer and stylist during each shoot with the grandmothers, taking a portrait of both the women and the food they made for him.

So i received my Loot Crate today. I never heard of them before until a friend mentioned it to me. With a bunch of successful business like Birchbox, naturebox, graze, ect where you pay $10/$5 a month for makeup samples/food snacks starting to become popular, Loot Crate snagged the geeky market. You pay $19 ($13 + $6 s&h) a month for some pretty rad nerdy-gamer loot that comes to your doorstep once a month.

If you’re unsure so far, they have pictures of past Loot Crates that have been sent out so you have an idea of the amount and quality of stuff they ship. Sometimes if they have a few things left over they sell them as well here. If you like their Facebook it keeps you updated with what they have left over to sell. Thats what i do. They had a pretty rad Batman action figure to sell last week.

But i get it, $19 is a lot of money when you add it up once a month. I’m cheap as shit, and even i had to really sit down and do the math if it was worth it. It really is though, for me. I spend probably 10x that amount on little geeky/nerd/gamer/comic related things monthly, if not weekly. This is a little surprise present i give to myself via snailmail. I guess i like the surprise of the whole ordeal. It would also make a pretty gnarly present for somebody, giving them a 6month/year subscription.

Anyways, this Loot Crate contained: Darth Vader bobble-head, Spock button, HexBug, Secret Code wristband, two collectible star wars post cards, and a dead space 3 wall graphic (which i put on my laptop.) If you’re interested, give them a try. First sign up subscriptions you get 10% off and they have little fire sales all the time. I give you my word, its worth it.
